Along the route, visitors discover the fundamental role of these mills in the economic and social development of the town, passing through restored buildings and now disused structures, symbols of a glorious productive past.
The former Boimond Paper Mill, located in Vadurso on the left bank of the Liri River, is an important testimony to the industrial evolution between the 19th and 20th centuries. Founded on two mills purchased by the entrepreneur Roessinger, it became a modern paper mill thanks to the installation of a “paper machine” after the 1915 earthquake.
Continuing along, visitors come across the former Lefebvre Paper Mill, founded in the former convent of Santa Maria delle Forme and the first major modern paper industry in the Kingdom of Naples. Under the leadership of Carlo Lefebvre, it contributed to the industrial development of Isola del Liri, nicknamed the “Manchester of Naples”.
The itinerary ends with the former Liri Paper Mill, founded in 1836 by Nicola Sorvillo and expanded by the Meridionale Paper Mill Company. In the 20th century it became one of Italy's largest paper industries, with an innovative rail transport system. It still preserves historic buildings of great value.
This itinerary is a unique opportunity to explore Isola del Liri's industrial past and understand its impact on urban and social development. Through the recovery and enhancement of the former paper mills, the city offers visitors a fascinating journey through history, engineering and collective memory.
