The Project

The project “Cicerone e le vie dell'acqua” aims to promote and enhance the historical, cultural, and environmental heritage of the Liri Valley, with particular focus on the municipalities of Arpino, Sora, Isola del Liri, and Posta Fibreno

This is the first step towards the creation of a Literary Park dedicated to Marcus Tullius Cicero, the renowned Roman orator and statesman deeply connected to this territory.

By leveraging digital technologies and multimedia tools, the project offers visitors an immersive experience, allowing them to explore the points of interest (POI) in the area, including archaeological sites and natural and cultural landmarks. The route has been designed with different modes of exploration, including free navigation, interactive maps, and thematic itineraries connecting the various POIs.

A mobile application has been developed for iOS and Android, featuring augmented reality content, audio guides, and accessibility options for users with disabilities. Some of the innovative features include:

  • Drinking fountain map, to reduce the use of single-use plastic
  • Waste reporting feature, allowing users to send geolocated photos to the relevant authorities to promote environmental protection

For each point of interest, multimedia materials have been created, including:

  • Informative sheets in Italian and English
  • Audio and video tracks with Italian Sign Language (LIS) translation
  • 3D reconstructions and virtual reality for an enhanced immersive experience

A three-minute promotional video presents the project on social media platforms and YouTube.

With “Cicerone e la via dell'acqua”, the Liri Valley has adopted an innovative and inclusive tool to enhance its heritage, offering a modern and engaging cultural and tourism experience.
