Lungofibreno Tremoletto

The Lungofibreno Tremoletto natural monument, established in 2018, consists of a wetland that serves as a refuge for many bird species. It is located along the Fibreno Valley, on the border between the territories of Sora and Isola del Liri

The area is characterized by flooded meadows, reed thickets and patches of hygrophilous woods. It is of great geological importance due to the presence of the Tremoletto sinkhole, a unique karstic phenomenon that caused the ground to collapse.
The slopes of Montemontano were inhabited during the Protohistoric period of the Bronze Age by a village that took advantage of the area's natural resources. Traces of this settlement remain visible today, including the foundations of ancient huts.
A short distance away, on the northwestern slopes of Minghitto Hill, lies a karstic cave known as "Grotta Milano," which was inhabited as early as the Middle Paleolithic period.
