Antonio Valente, an architect and set designer, was born in Sora in 1894 and passed away in Rome in 1975. As an architect, he designed 160 theatres worldwide and 150 villas. Among his notable projects are the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC – Experimental Centre of Cinematography) in Rome, where he taught for 32 years, Pisorno, the first cinema city in Pisa and the De Paolis and Nomentana film studios in Rome. As a set designer, Valente revolutionized theatre with his technical innovation, inventing “luministica” (the use of lighting) and the “rotating stage”. He also created the famous “Carro di Tespi” or travelling theatre.
